Hospital Radio mourns the passing of Jim Simpson

The world of Hospital Radio broadcasting in the UK was saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Simpson this week. Jim began his involvement with hospital radio in his teens in his birth town of Folkestone and as he moved around the country through the years he would join the local Hospital Radio service, finally being a member of Radio Grapevine at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.

Jim produced a series of programmes for syndication across hospital radio in the UK including ‘The Vintage Years’ heard here on IHR. Jim was also a former chairman of the Hospital Broadcasting Association, during which time he presented out own founder member Donnie Aird with the ‘John Whitney Award’ for his outstanding contribution to hospital radio in 2014

Inverness Hospital Radio Chair Tom Nelson said ‘I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Jim and I have been contacted by a number of our members to express their sadness as well. It is clear than Jim was a well respected man and passionate about Hospital Radio. On behalf of the Committee and members of Inverness Hospital Radio, I would like to extend my condolences to Jim’s family and to all those associated with Hosptial Radio who will feel this loss’.
