Lottery Grant & Studio Upgrade

Inverness Hospital Radio has been awarded a £5,000 grant by the national lottery community fund to go towards purchasing new broadcast equipment at their studios at Raigmore Hospital.

The studio facility was built in 1998 after members raised an incredible £150,000 to build two purpose built studios. The main broadcast equipment remains the same since then and has provided excellent service, but now requires replacement.

The on-going project will see the phasing out of the existing analogue equipment to be replaced with up to date digital broadcast equipment. This will ensure that the service is able to continue to broadcast for many years to come in the way it has done since 1970. However, the introduction of this new digital equipment will enable IHR to allow presenters from all over the Highlands to present live and contribute content, making our service more reflective of the Highlands as a whole. This also enables our outside broadcast facilities to come out to the community to support local health based charities to enhance their events and raise awareness of their activities along with our own.

The expected cost to replace all of the existing equipment will exceed £20,000 but with the help of this grant, the work can start now to enable one studio to be upgraded and allow IHR to increase it’s listenership to help us continue our fundraising to reach our final target.
