Broadcasting to Highland patients for over 50 years.

Welcome to Inverness Hospital Radio - a voluntary organisation set up with the specific aim of making life in hospital more pleasant and interesting for our listeners - the patients.

Highland Cross 2023

A total of seven hundred and twenty-seven competitors started the event this year.

Inverness Hospital Radio had the chance to meet with an incredible competitor this year, Mark Johnson, who completed the cross in 2018, before being in a car accident which left him in a five-week coma and the unaware if he would be able to walk again. He completed the cross in five hours and 7 seconds.

“The first thing I heard from the consultant when I woke up was that I wouldn’t be able to walk again and you might be in a wheelchair for the rest of you life, which I disagreed with.”

“I was very determined to get to the end, despite the fact that I’ve just been told that I might have broken a bone in my elbow but never mind, these things happen.”

Raigmore did confirm a fracture and Mark is recovering fine.

The Highland Cross previously donated a grant of £2555 to Inverness Hospital radio for equipment refurbishment in 2011.

Celebrating over 50 years broadcasting in 2020

There have been many memorable dates in the 50 years existence of the Inverness Hospitals Broadcasting Service, but none so important as the 2nd November 1970, when Donnie Aird and the late Alistair Gardner first went on air to broadcast a pre-recorded show.

Coming in 2023: New Studio Upgrade

We are excited to announce that in 2023, we will be undertaking a major upgrade of Studio 1, the first upgrade for 25 years. This will bring our broadcasting up to date with state of the art digital technology.
